«Another difficulty for me is seeing British Modernism influences Americanised. Visually the film contains some amazing shots… the scooters, the record store, some full on soul dancing and some to die for outfits worn by Jill. However, there’s something fundamentally missing in the look of the other characters, the extras and accessories they bear. But isn’t that the same with all Mod films made up to now, I mean… look at the dreadful hair do of Quadrophenia’s Steph and the dodgy Mod dancing of Sting. The enthusiasts long for an accurate portrayal of a life incorporating Mod - where the true intense passion of Modernist Culture and what it is like to be part of it is revealed. Here, in Young Birds Fly, I personally find that this has not been fully achieved, but Flores has had a pretty damn good try which I thank him for and praise his efforts. Can this difficult accurate portrayal ever be achieved from an independent film-maker? Probably not, but it would be nice to see one day...»

«Picking this 20-song CD up should be almost a no-brainer for anyone remotely familiar with Sounds Incorporated's playing or reputation. This self-titled CD represents the best of Sounds Incorporated's EMI recordings, drawn from one Parlophone Records single done at the outset of their career and a handful of EMI-Columbia singles, and their two LPs for the label - only a half-dozen tracks released by English Decca in between their Parlophone and Columbia contracts are missing (and one longs to hear what was on those). The Kentish-spawned sextet had a reputation as one of the most "American"-sounding backing groups in England, honking and surging on saxes, guitars, and keyboards, and boast an aggressive electric bass sound as well, coming off at times like a highly extrovert rival of Booker T. & the MG's or the Mar-Keys. Just in terms of the home-grown competition, Barrie Cameron's organ playing should have made him a rival of Brian Auger or Georgie Fame, and Tony Newman might well have been the Hal Blaine of England, based on what one hears here on "Rinky Dink" or "Crane." Similarly, John St. John Gillard's guitar and Cameron's keyboards, augmented by Alan Holmes' flute, combine to make "My Little Red Book" seem fresh and new. Their adaptation of Edvard Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" borrows a few bars from Gustav Holst's "Mars, Bringer of War" from the Planets, without doing violence to this piece of what could be considered proto-progressive rock (proto-prog rock?), which doesn't forget it's a rock & roll track; and even hardcore fans of the Clovers won't mind the rendition of "One Mint Julep" here -- the pounding, driving version of the Mar-Keys' "Last Night" is also worth the price of admission. Sounds Incorporated got its biggest U.S. exposure supporting the Beatles on their 1965 tour (soundboard tapes of one of their sets, from Houston, Texas, have surfaced, incidentally), and one sort of wonders how, after hearing these guys rip through "Mogambo" live or on record, the members of the Beatles (except maybe for George) could face their instruments again. The annotation is reasonably thorough, and the audio quality is excellent.» (AllMusic.com)

Дуэт Ike & Tina Turner записал более 20 альбомов и множество хитов, включая "A Fool In Love", "It's Gonna Work Out Fine", "River Deep, Mountain High", "Nutbush City Limits".

The Black Keys.

«Once upon a time, singers could sing, tunes were tuneful, records were on record, and soul music had soul. Fortunately, this is no fairy tale. Once-upon-a-time is right now: THE SWEET DIVINES are here. "Girl" group, hell. The Sweet Divines are women - less “then he kissed me” and more "sock it to me!" Their inspiration comes from those bold soul sisters who, about 40 years back, worked up a sweat down South cutting three-minute miracles in woodshed studios and blowing the roofs off neighborhood nightclubs. If you weren't around to experience that phenomenon the first time, the Sweet Divines are making damn sure you get your chance. With a sound like Memphis in ’67, you'd never know they actually started out in Queens in ‘07. This is where two former members of The Dansettes (a band which, despite a too-brief career, recently became a favorite live act in NYC and at SXSW) organized a low-key basement R&B jam session with some of their favorite soul-singing females. The result: pure, uncut, 24-karat soul! Within weeks, a tape machine rolled in Brooklyn, and the Sweet Divines cut their first tracks. The Sweet Divines carry on the Dansettes’ legacy of classic songwriting, killer showmanship, and an authentically old-school sound. Don’t let their youth fool you. These gals are no showbiz novices. Individually, the members of the Sweet Divines have graced the Kennedy Center and the Apollo Theater. They have shared stages with the Shirelles, the Crystals, the Marvelettes, and countless others. They have seasoned their chops singing backups for the likes of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Mike Viola, the Mighty Hannibal, and Archie Bell. But together they are taking center stage. Backed by a handpicked band of young soul specialists, their four distinctive voices blend perfectly over a relentlessly heavy groove. With this simple forumla, the Sweet Divines are set to rain heavenly manna on soul purists, beat addicts, harmony lovers, and just about anyone else with a pair of ears and/or feet. Whether you just emptied your kitchen pantry to make room for your extra soul 45s, first heard "Son of a Preacher Man" yesterday and felt that tug in your gut, or just hunger for some real, honest-to-God music: You and the Sweet Divines are going to live happily ever after.»
